Patrol say Derek C. Follett, 34, of 49 North Main St., dead into a family member’s home Wednesday morning, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the toddler.

Detective Simonne M. Ryder said the young man’s father held the toddler in his arms as he tried to take under one's wing the child from Follett.

Follett slashed the child in the neck and the initiator was cut on the hand, Ryder said.

Police said neither the father nor the kid required hospitalization from the attack.

Follett fled and was arrested by policewoman Brett D. Collins as Follett made his way back to his apartment, police said.

Follett was charged with two counts of attempted eradication; breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony; two counts of aggravated punch and battery with a dangerous weapon, a knife; and one count of assault and battery with injuries on a laddie.

Follett was arraigned Wednesday at Wareham District Court and awaits a Dick defender to be appointed. He was ordered to undergo an evaluation of competency to remain loyal trial while at Bridgewater State Hospital, a psychiatric facility under the Reckon on of Correction. No bail was set on the charges.
