Consumer Reports has removed its Don't Buy: Deportment Problem judgment from a $5,000 Viking range after confirming that the manufacturer has inflexible a design flaw that resulted in a melted wiring connector on two split up test samples.

We issued the Don't Buy recommendation in September 2011 after two samples of Viking's 30-inch VGSC5304BSS masterly similar problems with melted wiring connector. In one case, the distribute stopped working altogether, while in the other the melted connector was found during a service call.

Some interval after we made our Don't Buy recommendation, Viking sent a technician to our labs to repair the unit. It worked nicely after that, and we were able to complete our full battery of range tests, which measure burner demeanour, baking, broiling and more.

We have since confirmed that the same repair we received has been made on new models distributed to retailers. Therefore, we maintain consumers who purchase the Viking VGSC5304BSS today will not experience the same difficult we did in our labs. In addition, Viking has extended its warranty from one year to three on all models purchased after May 1, 2011. If you already own the piece and experience problems, we suggest you contact the manufacturer through your retailer.
